Preston Project – Passive House

A thoughtful renovation and rear extension to a classic Californian bungalow in Preston, designed to bring contemporary living to the back of the home while respecting the original character. The new addition opens to the garden via high-performance glazing and a sheltered deck, creating an easy indoor–outdoor connection.

Designed to Passive House principles (without certification), the project prioritises comfort, energy efficiency and indoor air quality through an airtight internal wall wrap, high levels of insulation to the underfloor, walls and ceiling, and a whole-home HRV system delivering clean, filtered air 24/7. An open pergola with stainless steel vine cables provides a natural shading layer over time, complemented by a fully landscaped rear yard.
